Department of Studies in Law
The Department of Studies in Law (DoS in Law) was established in 1973 under the aegis of the University of Mysore (The Mysore University is the sixth oldest in the country and the first in Karnataka. Also, in a sense, it is the first University of the country established outside the limits of the British India.) The DoS in Law is a prominent institution in Southern India, recognized for its high standards in legal education and research. The department offers a two-year LL.M. program with specializations in Constitutional Law, International Law, and Business and Trade Law. The program is research-oriented, requiring students to complete a dissertation, many of which are published. The department also offers a Ph.D. program, supporting advanced research under the guidance of experienced faculty. It attracts a diverse student body from across India and internationally, including countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Kenya, Tanzania, and Yemen.

About the Event
The concept of sustainable cities and communities has gained global prominence as urbanization accelerates and environmental challenges intensify. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play a crucial role in driving innovations that contribute to urban sustainability. Cities like Curitiba, Masdar City, Singapore, China, and Japan have demonstrated how sustainability and technological innovation can converge to create more resilient urban environments. IPR plays a vital role in encouraging and protecting the innovations that make this possible.
Curitiba is internationally recognized for its innovative public transportation system and commitment to green space. Masdar City, powered by renewable energy and water conservation systems, showcases advanced water conservation systems. IPR supports the protection and commercialization of green technologies that make such innovations possible. Singapore is a global leader in developing “smart cities” by integrating cutting-edge technology with sustainable construction practices. China’s high-speed rail network is an example of how IPR and sustainability intersect. Japan has been at the forefront of developing technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The New Urban Agenda, adopted at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development in 2016, emphasizes the importance of fostering innovation, technology, and sustainable practices in urban development. IPR is a key enabler in this context, facilitating the protection and sharing of knowledge and technologies essential for achieving sustainable development goals.
