Prefatory Note
This Model UN conference aims to address the urgent need for legal frameworks that protect the environment from the impacts of armed conflict and reprisals. This conference will explore themes such as defining reprisals in the context of environmental harm, assessing the impact of armed conflict on natural resources, and evaluating existing international legal instruments. Participants will discuss the intersection of environmental justice and human rights, and the importance of holding individuals and states accountable for environmental degradation. Through case studies highlighting the consequences of reprisals, the conference will identify the necessity for new legal instruments and foster collaboration among nations to develop a unified approach. Additionally, the role of non-governmental organizations in advocating for environmental protection will be examined, with an emphasis on innovative solutions and best practices to safeguard the natural environment in conflict situations.
